EV charger installation in Los Angeles
We check your panel first. If it can carry a Level 2 charger, we install it on a dedicated 240V circuit, permit it and get it inspected. If it can't, we tell you your options before you spend money, including load management that can skip a panel upgrade.

How it goes
- 1

We confirm the panel has room. Written price before any work.
- 3

- 5
Inspection and rebate
The inspector signs off. We give you the paperwork the rebate program asks for.
Permits, the utility and rebates
Every hardwired charger and every new 240V circuit needs an electrical permit in California. The City of Los Angeles puts standard single-family EV charger installs on its Express Permit list, so LADBS issues the permit online the same day. Anaheim has an online permit for the same thing and asks for a load calculation with it. Burbank, Glendale, Lancaster and Jurupa Valley each have their own counter.
A charger on its own circuit doesn't need utility approval. If the panel has to be upgraded first, the utility's meter spot and release come into play. See the panel upgrade page.
Rebates change every year. LADWP's residential program has offered up to $1,000 toward a qualified Level 2 charger, more for income-qualified households, plus a credit for a dedicated EV meter on a time-of-use rate. SCE and Anaheim Public Utilities have run their own programs with different amounts and deadlines. Ask us what's open for your address. We'll tell you what we know and where to confirm it.
How long it takes
Most installs are done in one visit. The permit is usually same-day in the City of LA. If the panel has to be upgraded first, the utility's schedule comes first. We'll tell you which situation you're in on the first call.
What moves the price
Written quote after the panel check. What changes it:
- Distance from the panel to where you park
- Hardwired versus a NEMA 14-50 outlet
- Indoor, outdoor or a detached garage
- Conduit, trenching, or going through finished walls
- 40A, 50A or 60A circuit
- Whether the panel needs a load-management device or an upgrade
- The charger itself, if we supply it
You can supply the charger or we can. Either way, parts and labor are separate lines on the written quote.
Permitted work
Recent EV charger installs
In 2024 we permitted and installed a 12 kW, 240V / 50A home charger in Jurupa Valley, and a Level 2 charger circuit alongside a 200A panel upgrade in West Hills. Both passed inspection.

All service areasQuestions people ask us
Can my panel handle an EV charger?
Many 100A panels can, if the house isn't already running electric heat, an electric range and central air. We do a load calculation to know for sure. If it's close, a load-management device lets the charger throttle when the house is busy, which can avoid a panel upgrade.
Hardwired or a NEMA 14-50 outlet?
Hardwired is cleaner, weather-rated and what most 48A chargers need. A 14-50 outlet lets you unplug and take the charger with you. Outdoors, the outlet needs a GFCI breaker, which some chargers don't like. We'll tell you which fits your charger.
Do you install Tesla Wall Connectors?
Yes. Tesla, ChargePoint, Wallbox, Emporia, Grizzl-E, JuiceBox, Ford Charge Station Pro, and the chargers that come with the car.
Do I need a permit for an EV charger in Los Angeles?
Yes. It's a new 240V circuit. In the City of LA it's an LADBS Express Permit; we pull it and schedule the inspection. An unpermitted install can void the charger warranty and the rebate.
How fast will my car charge?
A Level 2 charger on a 40A circuit adds roughly 25 to 30 miles of range per hour for most cars. A 60A circuit with a 48A charger adds more. Overnight covers a full day of driving for almost everyone.
Can I get a rebate?
Often, from your electric utility. The amounts and deadlines change. We'll point you at the current program and give you the paperwork it needs.
Do you do chargers for apartments, HOAs and businesses?
Yes. Multi-unit and commercial chargers need more planning: load sharing, metering, accessible stalls. Call and we'll talk it through.
