What we see in Jurupa Valley homes

Jurupa Valley became a city in 2011, but the houses are older than that: the median home was built around 1979, and about 80% of the housing is detached single-family on bigger lots. Mira Loma and Glen Avon have 1960s and 70s ranch homes, some on half-acre and horse-property lots with barns, wells and workshops. Eastvale next door is almost all 2000s construction.

On the older lots we see 100A and 125A panels with long overhead feeds, detached shops and barns fed by undersized or unpermitted runs, well pumps and AC sharing circuits, and Federal Pacific panels. On the newer Eastvale homes the panel is fine but the garage has no 240V, and the charger is the whole job.

What we do most here: EV chargers, panel upgrades, feeders and subpanels for workshops and barns, and repairs.

Permits and SCE in Jurupa Valley

The City of Jurupa Valley has its own Building Department and issues electrical permits for panel upgrades, EV chargers and rewires. The city's monthly permit reports are full of 100A-to-200A service changeouts, which tells you how common the job is here. Eastvale and Riverside have their own counters.

The utility is SCE. For a service upgrade, SCE does a meter spot and then releases the service after the city inspects. SCE has run rebates for panel upgrades tied to EV charging and for home chargers; programs open and close, so ask us what's current.

Questions from this area

Do you really come out to Jurupa Valley from LA?

Yes. It's about 50 miles. We group Inland Empire jobs and give you a real date. For emergencies, call and we'll tell you honestly.

I have a barn or shop with no power. Can you run it?

Yes. That's a feeder and a subpanel, sometimes underground conduit. It needs a permit.

Can you put a charger in an Eastvale garage?

Yes. Most of those panels have room. It's usually a short run and a one-visit job.

Is SCE involved if I just add a charger?

No, only if the panel or the service changes. The charger alone is a city permit and an inspection.
