What we see in Lancaster homes
Lancaster grew fastest in the 1980s: about 27% of its homes were built that decade, and the median home dates to around 1986. That means a lot of single-story stucco tract houses on slab, with the panel on the garage or side wall, plus older ranch and farm properties out toward the edges.
The 1980s panels are usually 100A to 150A and in better shape than the 1950s stock we see in LA, but the loads here are heavier: summer heat means big AC units running all day, and the Antelope Valley has some of the highest rooftop-solar adoption in the county. Solar, battery backup and an EV charger all compete for the same bus bar, and panels sold as 'solar-ready' ten years ago often aren't.
What we do most here: panel upgrades to make room for solar, batteries and chargers, EV chargers, AC circuits, and well pump and outbuilding feeders on the rural lots.
Permits and SCE in Lancaster
The City of Lancaster's Building and Safety Division issues electrical permits for panel upgrades, chargers and rewires. Palmdale has its own counter. Unincorporated areas (Quartz Hill, Lake Los Angeles, Littlerock) go through LA County Building and Safety.
The utility is SCE. Service upgrades get an SCE meter spot before and a release after the city inspects. If you have or want solar, the panel upgrade and the solar interconnection should be planned together so SCE only has to look once.

Questions from this area
Do you charge extra to come to Lancaster?
Distance is part of any quote. We'll tell you the number before you commit, and we group Antelope Valley jobs to keep it reasonable.
My panel is full and I want solar and a charger.
That's the most common Lancaster call. Usually a 200A panel with a solar-ready bus. We size it so the solar installer doesn't have to come back.
Can you fix a well pump circuit?
Yes. Pumps, pressure switches and the feeders to them.
Is Lancaster LADWP?
No, SCE. LADWP only serves the City of Los Angeles.
